Clearspring Nori Seaweed is grown and produced using traditional methods on the island of Kyushu, Japan. While some seaweeds, such as hijiki, arame and dulse, are sustainably harvested from the wild, nori is extensively cultivated in Japan and other East Asian countries.
Nori has been cultivated in Japan for over 300 years. In shallow bays, nets are used that are attached to bamboo poles, the height of which is carefully adjusted to provide the plants with the best sunlight and water for growth. During the colder months, the nori grows and in late winter it is harvested, washed, cut, pressed into thin sheets and dried. Gentle roasting turns the sheets a translucent green and crisp, giving them a pleasant nutty flavor that confirms their quality. These nori sheets are perfect for making sushi.
